“No More Stolen Children: A History of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) & the fight to save it” a talk 6pm WED, OCT 5 at 1095 Spring St.
Heather Bruegl, Independent Indigenous Consultant & Historian, tells the history the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) & how/why it came into existence. ICWA is currently jeopardized by a Supreme Court Case that threatens tribal sovereignty. There was a time when tribal leaders reported that their children were missing. They had been taken from the homes that they knew and placed in non-Indigenous homes. Children were taken in droves.
